REC TEC Grills Smokebox for Bull RT-700 & RT-680

The REC TEC Smokebox gives you the ability to smoke fish, cheese, jerky, sauces, spices, or even condiments.  With three stainless grates inside the chamber, space is never an issue.  You can even use the Smokebox as a warming area at the end of your cook to keep the smoke rolling until it is time to eat.  The stainless drip pan in the bottom of the Smokebox flows into your existing drip bucket, making clean-up simple and easy.  It attaches to your REC TEC Bull RT-700 or RT-680 using the existing holes ensuring a care-free installation.

    I added this to my RT700 Bull. Instructions were not helpful, but it was easy to install. I took about 30 minutes with help from my wife to hold it in place. It does amazing cheese. As explained by Rec Tec, there are hot spots. On LO (180) smoking, I'm getting around 60-70 degrees on lower thermometer & close to 150 on the upper. The lower rack and the exterior wall stay coolest. The upper racks and side attached to the smoker get hotter. I quickly figured that out and keep my cheese low & outside on the racks. It would be a 5 except for the temperature range inside - that wasn't a surprise, so I'm REALLY happy with this cold smoker box!

    I use it for keeping things warm and to get some smokey flavor on my veggies before I grill or saute them. Outstanding build quality and comes with multiple shelves and pan. It's also a great additional shelf for your rubs, pans, etc. 100% satisfied. Spend the extra few bucks and make your smoker a lot more versatile.

    With an environmental temperature at 50F and the grill set to "low", I can consistently keep temps on the bottom rack below 100F. Couldn't keep it down at 80F though, so the real cold smoking may be more achievable in colder climates. A slow hot smoke on Salmon turned out with lots of flavor, and smoked cheese turned out tasty, though a bit crumbly due to the higher temp. The temperature gradient between top and bottom racks is steep, I was running 100F on bottom and 150F on top so I had to swap my salmon racks a few times. The front of the box is also much cooler than the back. You can get a LOT more smoke flavor out of this box than from the main grill, so it may be a good option if you haven't been getting enough flavor. It seem perfectly capable of achieving higher temps as well as the lows. My first cycle I ran 450F for an hour to clean it and the box crept into the 300F range

    I do wish it came with extension wires for the meat probes, they don't reach from the controller. Mine also came with a bent probe on the lower thermometer so I had to replace it.

    This unit CAN be installed by just one person, though I will admit it wasn't the easiest task.

    So far love it .i can’t stop smoking cheese in it looking forward to doing salmon next . Installation only took about 20 min . Another great addition to my Rec tec lineup

    I love this thing! Perfect for smoking my cheese and salmon. Also adds a great place to keep buns warm. Looks great on the grill too!

    I have had my Rec Tec smoker for several years, and finally bit the bullet and ordered the smokebox. It is the best purchase I made this year. I purchased it to cold smoke fish for smoked fish dip, it is phenomenal. In SW FL we have a mix of offshore fish varieties, and they all are perfect out of the smokebox. Smoked Ahi Tuna bites are the rage currently, smoked grouper with smoked jalapeno cream cheese bagels make a great brunch. Buy this for your Bull, you will never be disappointed.

    Another great addition to the RT-700 grill! It does look unusual considering that all you see is typical pellet grills, but having the flexibility to do some cooler smokes makes it a nice feature. It would be even cooler if it could easily be taken on and off and connected with a duct for even cooler smoke, but we'll see how it does in the cool Wyoming winters for smoking cheeses and such.

    I can’t say enough about this addition to my 680, I make chipotle using red jalapeño peppers from my garden and I’m very impressed with the results.
