  • Own a Big Green Egg and love Rec Tec

Posted by Don Beck on 15th Oct 2018

I live in Denver Colorado. My trailblazer arrived late September 2018. It was put together in about 15 minutes. Since then I have reversed seared a filet mignon in cold drizzly light snow weather. The grill maxed out at 605 degrees in this weather. The steak was a work of art. I have cooked chicken, beef and pork. Saturday night before going to bed I put on a pork shoulder. Snow and wind outside. Set the rec tec (from my phone) at 225 around 9 pm. Went to bed and checked things (from my phone in a warm bed) around 1 am. 225 on the nose. Checked again at 4 am. 225 on the nose. This thing is amazing. Held the temperature perfectly in wind and snow and cooked a fantastic pork shoulder. I'm in love. Smoke, slow cook, grill, sear .... it can do it all. My Big Green Egg is jealous but I don't have to baby sit the rec tec. I could easily play 18 holes of golf, shower and have a beer with the rec tec. You can't do that with my egg. I don't know what else to say but I did want to wait before writing a review to make sure my review as accurate. Glad I did the research and very glad I bought this grill.

  • Amazing

I have been using it twice a week for the last few weeks, and the meat just continues to come out better than the last. From thick cut pork chops to ribs and tritip, this has never had a problem. I would recommend it to anyone.

We are very happy with our new grill . We did a 10lb turkey for Thanksgiving Canada on Sunday and we were just amazed at the flavour and moist delicious meat we pulled off..,The grill is so solid and well built in comparison to Traegar or Green Mountain

Just a warning this will be a long review but if your looking into getting a rec tec grill then take the time to read it. I bought the trailblazer about 6 months ago after eating some meat that was slow cooked on a buddy of mine larger rec tec model. I got the smaller version because it was plenty big unless you are cooking for more than 10 people at a time.

I'll just start from the beginning of having the grill. First thing I made was a 70 dollar steak roast. the grill had multiple issues right off the bat it was not maintaining the temperature I had it set for. I set it to 400 and it went up to 643 then kept messing with it while cooking my steak. Even all this crazy temperatures the steak loin was an amazing truly. That being said I called after hours with the support number they give you and they walked me through for 2 days on solutions to fix the problem. Never once did I get annoyed with the service they were providing. always nice normal guys on the other end who just want you our grilling and having a good time. We ended up figuring out the issue and now it doesn't stray more than a few degrees up or down from the temperature that I have it set at. I have now made several things on it steak, burgers, poor mans burnt ends, ribs, and so many other things. EVERYTHING has turned out amazing they way it seals in the moisture can't be beaten. I hate chicken and somehow on this grill with a slow smoke and flavor it's more to my liking than it ever has been. The electronics of this grill are amazing also, easy to use. The two probes for temperature readings is amazing and the app allowing you to change the temp and set up warnings so you don't overcook the food is amazing. Honestly many times I have been too lazy to get up from my own couch so ill change the temperature or wait for an alert before I get up.

The icing on the cake... Yesterday for the Chief's game I had some people come over and made poor mans burnt ends (amazing and simple) had to be up at 5:00 in the morning to get it started. I had to set up the canopy so the grill didn't get hit with constant cold rain right! Then while setting up the canopy it collapsed and knocked over the grill. At 5:30 with only a couple of hours of sleep I was a little pissed at the situation and myself for knocking over such a beautiful masterpiece of a grill. When I lifted the already hot and loaded with meat grill I realized that the lid had broken. The horns bent in and the insolation popped open on the lid as well. Just starting the cooking I left it alone see if it would be okay to grill for the day. Even with the lid bent and not fully closed it still maintained temperature and they tasted amazing. That's not even the good part... I called rec tec the next day thinking 'Man this sucks I'm gonna have to buy a new lid probably cost me at least a 100 bucks.' NOPE, they said, "Ohh man accidents happen we will get you taken care of ill send one out as soon as we have a lid in stock." I send him some pictures of the damage that happened to my lid and that's all they needed. It amazing the service and the kind of grill you get. If you are thinking of getting one don't bother with the thinking part of it and just get it I promise you will not be disappointed.

Haven't had a chance to use it much but so far has been working great. Just as good is the support you get when you call and get an exact answer unlike other places that are guessing. Purchased another brand and played with it for 3 weeks in trying to get it within 70 to 100 degrees of set temp, so never used it to cook on and returned it. When I set this grill to temp that's what you get.

Bought the Trailblazer after purchasing the Bull for week night cooks. This unit is perfect for two. Same controller, same fire pot, same Rec Tec quality. Works just as well as the Bull. Strongly suggest the bottom shelf, really stabilizes the unit. Wish there were a front shelf similar to the Bull and a blaket available. About to get cold here in Ohio. As the ad implies, this unit would be perfect for Tailgating or to take along camping.

Love it! Never had anything but cheap charcoal grills and was quite impressed with all the features this pellet grill has to offer. I knew it must be good, I couldn’t find any used ones for wants to part with it! Grilled steaks, Brussels sprouts, and tonight, homemade chicken pizza I’ve ever had. I have a feeling, after I post a few mor pictures to Facebook, some of my friends will be figuring out a way to get one. Probably the best investment I’ve made for cooking and healthy eating.

  • Better than the big T

Posted by Mike O on 1st Oct 2018

Love this machine. Had several Traeger smokers, I still like them, but RT has perfected the concept. The biggest pro is the temp control. You cannot beat it. I'm still tinkering with how to utilize it to my liking but overall, you can't deny a 5° +/- is epic.
The app could be better for control, but I'm sure it'll come around.
Great service team, I feel confident that they can handle any needs I may have in the future.
