I do not normally write review of products, but I am inclined to do so for the RecTec after one year of use. I am a complete novice when it comes to smoking (so, take this for what its worth), although I have done a lot of cooking for groups of people for over 15 years. The RecTec is built great like everyone says and their customer service is top notch.
What is important to know about the RecTec is that is a great product for someone to start out and continue to use when they are more experienced. It takes the novice screw-ups of trying to get the temp right out of the equation, and you can focus on the meat and the recipe. It took me three or four cooks to refine my final rib recipe and now it is perfect every time. Great product!

This is my first time to use a pellet grill. Love it

Better than i imagined, works like a charm and the web site recipes are great. My only criticism is that the cover is extremely snug and hreat care must be taken when installing to not cause damage

I have a Traeger that I have smoked on the last 4 years. The Rec Tec is built better and you get a better smoke on the meat. One thing it needs is ability to add another shelf inside smoker.

I purchased this grill after much research 2 years ago. I was apprehensive dropping $999 on a grill. This thing has performed flawlessly. I have tried smoking, cooking. cold smoking cheese, making my own bacon, and more. I have smoked 6 Boston Butts at a time, and only 1/2 a Chicken. The versatility of this thing is awesome. The customer service team is awesome. I have won 2 local competitions with this grill for my brisket and spare ribs. I even roll it into my toy hauler camper and take it with me to sporting events (all my buddies rave about what I cook). My wife has commented 7 times "that's the best thing you've made on that grill" Looking forward to number 8. You just can't go wrong with this versatile cooking tool!

I am retired so I did a lot of research... I believe this grill to be worth the price... I am very familiar with three pellet grills in this price range, and having used the REC Tec 680 twice now I am appreciative of my purchase...
I live in northern CA and could not believe how fast my RT-680 arrived... And what surprised me more was the completely undamaged box/shipping container, not one rip...
And the people you deal with are great...

Well made and a good looking grill. My other friends with pellet grills all want there current grills to break so they can get a RecTec. Food is turning out perfect. Worth the money. Thanks.

awesome grill, worth every penny, is everything they say it is in the you tube videos. For those of you who are on the fence about price and consumption of pellets, get off the fence . Very efficient fraction of the cost of charcoal. I looked for three months and checked out the competitors. Buy a Rec Tec. There is no comparison.

I am personally pretty new to smoking however my father in law has had his mak 2 star general for years as well as a louisana grills lg900 for a brief time until it broke and was returned. I watched and learned through his experience, I was doing research(both online and at local grill outlets) and not liking the available options in the budget which I could afford without saving for another few months for a mak 2. Then I found the rec tec. I was very hesitate spending this amount of money on something I couldn't touch/see in person. I researched more, called rec tec and spoke to Ben 3 separate times... (he is very helpful and never pushy, stated facts and answered questions) I ordered it on the 3rd phone call... it has been here for 4 weekends and has cooked 11 times without any issues! Great quality costruction that translates to a user friendly grill capable of producing great food!
The only things I would change at this point are listed below.
1) optional 2nd grill grate (in the works according to what I read)
2) a pellet hopper dump.
3) back ligniting or external light on the control unit.
Pretty short list when comparing a $1,160.00 grill to a $2,400.00 grill which is much smaller and also lacks the 3rd item on the wish list.
Very very pleased, my father in law is so impressed he ordered a mini today after we cooked 3 briskets, 3 chickens and 8 racks of ribs for easter dinner.

I was told by several people that this smoker was very well built and worked very well. I have used it twice and it is almost embarrassing how easy it is to make a good brisket. If you want great bbq, this will be perfect to make slow cooked smoked meats. I like the appearance also, because it has a less industrial look to it.
Posted by Michael Kichler on 4th Apr 2015
Easy to assemble, and even easier to use. Great build quality. Everybody raved about the two butts I smoked low and slow following Ray's video instructions, even made the slaw. They were perfection and all I did was put them on and take them off. Just the right amount of smoke for me. There was no tending. Basically, it is set it and forget it. Temperature stays constant. Couldn't be more pleased. Up next are ribs. I have no doubt they will be awesome too.

I bought this after seeing it used by a friend of mine on a really windy and cool day, as I am typically an offset stick burner I was impressed. That planted the seed and after a lot of research, and all the good reviews all over you tube and social media I was hooked.
The quality of the build and ease of operation is amazing not to mention the results! Absolutely great. I recommend this to everyone, experienced smoker or not.

I have used this grill at low and high temps to make ribs, burgers, steak, and meatloaf. This grill is a solid performer. I purchased the optional grill grates and the winter cover and even at below freezing temps this will sear a steak at 400°+.

I am beyond happy with this grill. It controls the temperature perfectly, uses high quality material, and is extremely efficient. Again, I couldn't be happier. Most importantly the food I have cooked on this grill has been absolutely amazing.

No fake reviews here, but if I wrote one, it'd just be repeating what has been said 350+ times! This thing is amazing. Definition of set and forget with amazing outcomes. A few years ago I tried smoking a pork loin on a gas grill with wood chips -- took forever without enough smoke and took constant maintenance. Fast forward to last weekend: I assembled it in about 30 minutes, did the bake in procedure, then threw a 25 lb pork shoulder butt on there. 12 hours later, it was some of the best barbecue I've had in a long time! and that was without any major marination/injection beforehand. The bark was incredible. Needless to say, it's barbecue for Easter this year! Customer Service is A+++

Had Traeger before. It would not hold temperature. Would fluctuate 5 to 8 degrees. Rec Tec stays right on the temperature set. Assembly quite easy and the quality of the grill is awesome. Love the inside light and the 40 lb. hopper works great when smoking a brisket or butt etc. for a long time. Smoked a butt for 11 hrs. and never had to add pellets. Also very important the customer service is beyond great. And last of all we love the chrome bull horn handles. What a touch!

I've had my REC TEC for about 2 months now and used it for ribs, trip-tip, turkey burgers and everything in between and I am not disappointed! Very easy to assemble, use and maintain. I've ran about 100 lbs. of pellets though it with minimal clean-up. I've been grilling and smoking with gas, wood and charcoal for many years but now I only have one grill on my property. By for one of the best purchases I have ever made!!
Posted by Kelly Chase on 31st Mar 2015
I reviewed several other smokers out there and nothing came close to the craftsmanship and pure coolness of the Rec Tec. No shortcuts or cheap materials at all.
You simply cannot ruin food on this thing it's so easy and fun.
I'm in commercial sales and this smoker / grill sells itself!

All my adult life grills have been a disposable item and so every few years you either rebuild or toss and get a new one. I have owned many and filled part of a land fill somewhere.
After assembling and using this fine beast, I told my wife " I should put this grill in my will!" It is built so substantially that If I take minimal care of it, it will outlast me.
I have made fish, beef, fowl and pizza and every time my food is tasty and juicy.
I have a quality chefs remote digital probe and just cook to the proper internal temperature and there you have some tasty food. The PID type controller has far less temperature swing that you oven in your kitchen. That can go plus and minus 30 degrees, that is a 60 degree swing!
When I uncrated the monster for assembly, I discovered the 80# of pellets I received were hickory and not the blend I had ordered. I also noticed I had not been charged for themon the packing slip. I contacted REC TEC and was promptly told "Oh we sent those at no charge we are temporarily out of the blend and will send you that when we can. A $99 value I might add!
Every contact with company has been quickly responded to in a very polite and cheerful manor, with personal follow up phone calls that surprised the hell out of me.
If you have to find a way to justify this purchase, just think out what you have or will spend on your typical gas or charcoal grill. I looked at Treager, they are all over. They are nice, but look cheap compared to my REC TEC.
I am sorry I didn't also order the drop down front tray, I will order that soon too!

I just purchased this Rec Tec and have only had the chance to use it once. Cooked some thick Ribeye Steaks on it and wow! Best steaks I've ever had! Great flavor, juicy, and tender. I can't wait to cook more things like ribs, pork shoulders, brisket, turkey, chicken, and beef tenderloin on it! I've told all my buddies to get a Rec Tec! I was a diehard charcoal user. Now it's wood pellets.

I received my Rec Tec only a few weeks ago, after reading the great reviews and doing some web browsing research. I've never owned a pellet grill before and I am only now learning how to properly cook on one, but so far I love this grill! The quality of its construction is beyond good and what little I had to put together fit perfectly. I haven't cooked anything really low & slow yet, but that's coming soon. The optional grill grates make steak searing easy and a real surprise. The optional grill cover is almost too custom-fit, but an email to Rec Tec and a quick response from Ben provided a video that showed how to easily take it on and off. I feel like this grill is a high-precision instrument, but incredibly simple to use. I've already used it about 6 or 8 times and I can't wait to get back at it!

I bought my REC-TEC on the advice of a good friend who had recently purchased the same grill and was thrilled with the quality of the grill and the food he cooked on it. I have to convey the same to others who are looking for a pellet grill to buy, I am 100% satisfied with the product and the flavor of the food that I have grilled. My family echoes my praise, which is even more important to me.

My friend has a Treager and he says it is + or - 20 degrees. My RecTec is spot on with the temperature. Easy to use and easy to clean. A must have if you are done with boring food on a propane grill.

Everything you would expect! Holds temperature just as they say. Excellent construction. Easy to assemble. I recommend purchasing the remote thermometer. One of the keys to perfectection besides recipe is precise internal meat temperatures.

I just finished eating some of the best ribs I ever tasted, and last weekend ate what was absolutely the best pulled pork I ever made. The RecTec is an amazing grill, and worth every penny it costs and more. So why four stars and not five? It's actually not the grill's fault. It's the fault of an efficient pellet stove, which the RecTec is. More efficiency means less waste, like ash and... unfortunately, smoke. It just doesn't make much smoke, but that doesn't really matter in this case, temperature control matters, and I can make smoke easily with the smoke tubes they offer which work amazingly and simply well. I love this thing, more than any major appliance I've ever bought, and I'll apologize to RecTec right now for not giving it five stars. It deserves five stars, but not for smoking. If they threw in just one smoke tube, I'd give it six stars and count my blessings. It should be viewed and used as a system of which the smoke tubes are part. I've never made better BBQ, and I give my RecTec the credit. Outstanding product.
I will add this while I'm on the subject. I have always smoked with hickory and the mixed wood pellets are just not up to making good flavor. The first pork butt I smoked was just so so. The second one, using the mixed pellets in the grill and hickory pellets in the smoke tube was absolutely the best pulled pork I ever tasted. The wood you use matters.

I have been a fan of pellet grills for almost 10 years now. Got a Traeger for my birthday worked great at first. I am a caterer so of course I used it a lot. But Man, I had to replace the thermostat 3 TIMES. the lid , the hinges, the wheels . And the thermostats never worked well in my opinion. I then bought a Maks one star. Works fine, I don't care for the cooking area and the Temp controls are a bit complicated.........So now I have a Rec-Tec......OMG this thing is nice FAR Superior construction, Nice cooking area, simple, fast acting controls, and an interior light! I am soooo happy! Love my REC-TEC!!

This is truely a set it and forget it grill. No getting up in the middle of the night to tend a fire, no needing to add fuel or set vents, plus it cooks great. Great cooker. I'm glad I finally 'pulled the trigger' and bought me one. It's almost impossible to mess a cook up. No more stick burners or charcoal for me. My Maverick just went off, time to get my pork off the smoker and start enjoying.

Fired my new smoker up for the first time last Saturday.....hosted a small part and cooked a 8# pork butt and 5# pork belly. I was impressed how the Rec Tec held its temperature during the 14 hour cook, compared to the Bradley smoker I've been using the past 4 years. The food was wonderful! Excellent quality.....well worth the money! I did research on all the pellet smokers for the past year...and I'm glad I made the Rec Tec choice!,

When my Rec Tec arrived I asked the neighbor to help put it together (he has a tragger). And he raved about how thick the guage of steel and the quality of the assembly. This thing is an amazing machine. Do the payments if you can't afford the lump sum cause it's worth every penny. PULL THE TRIGGER
Posted by Nick on 15th Mar 2015
I am smoking right now...
Easy to use, great tasting results, and great quality construction that has me assured this puppy will last. It holds temp perfectly (no more than 1 to 2 degree swings from what you set it at). I do recommend 2 people for assembly, but even by myself it only took 2 hours (and I am not particularly "handy"). Overall I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I have owned Traeger (Texan) for 7 years and had to replace the temperature controls three time along with the hinges, lid , lid holder and wheels.......I have had a Mak one star and it works fine but the controls re a bit complicated and I don't really care for the cooking area....Now ,OMG the REC TEC just has it all! Nice cooking area, Stainless steel grill and insides, GREAT Temp Controls, easy , Fast and Accurate. In side cook area light, Strong and Sturdy and The Bulls Horns....It RULES!

I've never had a smoker so I was very skeptical. After a lot of research I decided for the money the Rec Tec was the way to go. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Absolutely love it. I have never smoked a day in my life. I have cooked onpropane and charcoal before but have never smoked any meat before. This smoker is amazing!!!! I received my smoker and the weekend it came in I smoked a 10 pound brisket. It had an amazing smoke ring! And the flavor!?!?!? Holy cow!!!! My friends were amazed "If this was your first time smoking your only going to get better, and this brisket is really good already!!!!" It set the temperature I wanted and walked away. I read all the reviews so I knew that I wouldn't have to worry about temperature variations. Didn't come back until my meat thermometer went off to tell me my brisket was ready to wrap in foil. Wrapped it in foil and walked away again until the thermometer reached the temp I wanted. If it is this easy for someone who has never smoked before. Imagine how good you can be right off the bat if you had some experience!!! In 6 months I will be a much better smoke master!!! Now u am on a mission to find the recipes that are perfect for my tastes! I can't say enough great things about this grill. I received it in 8 working days and had a delay due to weather.

I wanted a pellet smoker after trying meat cooked on a friend's new Treager. I was good, but she had such problems keeping temp during cook since it was fall when she bought it. So, I searched and searched, and Rec Tec seemed to be the one for me. The man though, he wanted me to go with one of lesser cost. I was purchasing, so finally talked him into it, and I placed my order. When he brings up the price now, I say it works better and price wasn't much higher. It also fits a lot more food, so I load it up and freeze some instead of running it more. I also tell him, if you want to complain that I spent a couple hundred more you don't have to eat what it cooked.
I haven't even used my charcoal grill since receiving this. I use the grill grates they are awesome too. It's so easy to start it up! Keeps temp great!
Posted by Happy Griller on 12th Mar 2015
Believe the reviews. I bought the grill on the reviews and they are right on. Grill showed up was easy to put together and set up, did the break in per the instructions and went to grilling. Turkey breast, burgers, steaks, brats and pork lion and they all turned out great. Would like to add that i am from Wisconsin (Go Pack) and most the days that i was grilling was below zero with wind and the grill held the temp great. When i use to grill with LP gas it could never hold the temp in the colder weather. You can not o wrong with a Rec Tec buy one and enjoy grill at a whole new level.

I was in the market for a pellet grill and, truth be told, I thought Traeger was all there was. But after diligent research, I settled on the RT-680, and it appears I made the right choice.
Living in Texas, the true test of any BBQ/smoking apparatus is the ability to turn out a good brisket, and the RT-680 did not disappoint! The consistent low temperature was the key, and I only increased it at the end to get the internal temp where I wanted. The flavor and tenderness what right where it should be. My only addition was a small stainless steel bowl of water off to the side while the brisket cooked. Relative humidity is very low out in West Texas, and will dry out the meat.
Kudos to Rec Tec for a fine grill, and much thanks for the complimentary bag of pellets!

I cant say enough about this grill! Had it 2 weeks and I have enjoyed simple cooking and AMAZING Food!
Tri Tip, Best ever! Pulled pork, Best bark I have ever had from any other smoker! (wood/propane)
Ribye Steaks, I thought I already grilled the best steaks you could put in your mouth and the Rec Tec Topped it! Baked Potatoes, again Best I have ever grilled and so easy!
I own a retail store and we sell many different types of grills and smokers, but I use them year around 3-4 days a week and go through one every 2 years or less. Thought I would give this a try but was worried it could not be used as a grill, only a smoker. I'm here to tell you its both!
I did sooo much research before making this purchase and So far, Best $1200 I have spent in a while.
Just hope it holds up to my use.

I'm a trained culinary griller, and am simply tired of charcoal. My father has a Traeger that he raves about, but it seemed simplistic and cheaply name. Do I researched and researched. The reviews on the Rec Tec were encouraging, so I said, what the heck? 1,200 bucks or do all in with freight. In 4 days, LTL shows up and drops off this monster. I assemble, and not the superior craftsmanship and metal. Everything fit great. I season the grill. It's 15 degrees in Feb in Minneapolis. I'm just seasoning right. Push the little button and off it goes. Checked 30 minutes later and checked the internal temp. The degrees didn't move, do I'm thinking defective. I opened the lid and watched the temp drop. OMG, it's not defective! It held the temp perfectly! Ran to get baby back ribs and followed the you tube video. Apple juice, rub etc. I 5 hours I've enjoyed the best ribs ever! Last weekend, the temp climbed to 40, and did an 11 Hour pork butt. Amazing! The best grill I've ever owned!

The Rec-Tec is my first foray into smoking, and the Rec-Tec makes it easy. In my first week, I have smoked tri-tip, 19 pounds of Boston-Butt and two pork tenderloins, asparagus, garlic bread and a cobbler. I love introducing the Rec-Tec to my friends. The thousand-dollar+ price tag delayed my purchase by a year, but I am so glad I did not compromise on another brand. It seems to outstrip the competition in every way, from the 6-year warranty, to the quality of the steel of thermostat. So far, it has met my expectations, and I look forward to my next thousand pounds of tasty smoked meats, veggies, desserts, etc. Cheers!

This grill does everything it is advertised to do. Purchased mine with the stainless steel front shelf, cover, and the wood pellet bundle. Easy to assemble and use. Food taste great without the charring from flames like other grills do. Customer service is second to none. Just push the button to turn on and adjust the temperature. Couldn't be easier! Only thing I dislike is that it is very low to the ground for some reason.

This is the first time in 46 years that I have been compelled to sit down and write feedback on a purchase that I have made. I won't spend a lot of time giving you the same technical information that you can read in the more than 150 posts that are either on Amazon or the Rec Tec website (which by the way, I read them all before making my purchase) but, what I do want to say is that this is the best 1K that I believe I have ever spent. I have been using this thing every night since it arrived a little over a week ago and it has yet to turn out anything less than Outstanding! As I type, I am Rec Tec'ing a Pork Butt which will cook while I sleep... low and slow and will be ready when I wake up tomorrow morning! The guys at Rec Tec have been awesome to work with too. I had a slight issue with the UPS truck driver delivering the grill on the day that was scheduled and they were trying to push out delivery another day; however, the GM at Rec Tec made a quick call and within an hour, the UPS driver dropped off this masterpiece!
I was even surprised to find that they had even thrown in a complementary grill cover and extra 40 pound bag of wood pellets! For all of you having a hard time "pulling the trigger" on a 1K grill, I would tell you that you are not just getting what I believe is the best grill/smoker for the money...you are absolutely getting the best support customer service in a USA company anywhere! I work in the sales field and there is an old saying, "people buy people first and product second;" The guys at Rec Tec have a firm grasp on this concept and oh by the way, they happen to sell an amazing grill. Truly, the only regret I have in this purchase is not buying the smaller RT-300 at the same time I bought my large one! Save yourself the time and shipping and just buy them both at the same time!

Being an engineer I critique everything. The rectec grill is very well constructed and out preforms many grills on the market (as I own many) but, the only thing I did change with the grill is the lid fitment. I decreased the lid gap top and bottom by adding a seal to keep more smoke in along with the heat.

This grill is so good that it should be banned in the South. First off, I bought the grill at a Voice Today charity auction to help abused children. What a great company and great owners to donate the grill to help such a good cause. Second, I bought a butt, put it on the RecTec, pressed the button and pulled off the perfect Q many hours later. My family raved. I of course took the full credit (with a little guilt of my minimal effort, full nights sleep, and the ease the RecTec delivered center piece of our meal). I got over the guilt on my first bite. Oh my. Great Q from the masses.

I have waited 2 years to buy this grill and it was well worth the wait. It's an expensive grill, but worth every single penny I paid for it! The customer service when I bought it was the best. Press a button, set temp, walk away and let the grill do its thing! The first thing I did was get rid of my old gas grill.

I have grilled and smoked for over 30 years. You guys have figured out how to not screw it up. All of us have messed up lots of meat even after we got pretty good. I don't think that will ever happen again.
Clean up is amazingly easy. Thanks.

Just received my REC TEC last week.......MY GOD......it did everything and more!! Did 10 lbs of wings on my first cook....GREAT!!! Doing a 14 lb brisket Friday night. I will post the pictures. The reason for...ARE YOU KIDDING ME headline...the customer service is, on a scale from 1 to 10.......1 zillion!! I will, and have told everyone......REC TEC is like a Harley Davidson.....once you ride one.....there is no other bike. Once you use a REC TEC....well it goes without saying!!
Thank Rec Tec Family!!

From the instructions for set up to running and/or setting minimal feed rate, RecTec rocks! Great customer service that is knowledgeable and friendly. Only problem was with shipping company and informed RecTec staff regarding that. The grill performs outstanding, Cooked a 15 lbs brisket that people stated was the best brisket they've tasted. Was nice and tender and moist.
Had a Traeger and this puts it to shame.

I am totally pleased with my rec-tec. It takes all the guess work out of maintaining a set temp. The brains of the unit is like cooking with my kitchen oven. I started by following instructions found on YouTube videos, but quickly learned the basics of temp/smoke content and now make it up as I go. So far, not a single complaint. I own and have used for years, a different smoker but have never been comfortable with smoke content of meat cooked. Not a big fan of too much smoke, my new rec-tec is simple to control outstanding results. I even tried a whole "beef brisket" from Sam"s (ask... they have them!) for the first time. I was thoroughly pleased at how tender and "yummy" it turned out!! Have enjoyed leftovers for future meals also. There are many mfg of smokers out there, but for the home-cook, this one is perfect. Would definitely purchase again. :)

Ok don't laugh but this is how the first time I used the grill went. We had put it together late at night and I wanted to GRILL something! Anything!! I held off to the next day and then went to the grocery store. I got three racks of ribs, and a beef brisket went home and sprinkled a little Greek seasoning on them and threw them on about ten the text 6 friends to come over for dinner. Just as I was leaving my girl friend said she would like some turkey or chicken. I just happen to have one frozen chicken, what the hell. I hit it with a little Greek seasoning and threw it on. Off to work I went. Got home at 5 people came over at 6 and we went to chowing down. It was great. Imagine if I had actually planned ahead. Always next time. By the way the chicken was everyone's favorite. Everything was tasty and tender. Thanks to the guys at Rec-Teck for including a bag of pellets.

What I was looking for in a smoker was ease of use, versatility and durability. I think the Rec Tec grill meets those requirements and much more for under $1000.00.
Having never cooked on a smoker, I needed something that would allow me to make delicious meals without becoming a “BBQ Pit Master”.
If you can read and follow a recipe from a book or the Internet, you can create amazing dishes with this grill.
I have cooked pizza, chicken, pork butt, etc. on this grill with excellent results. Heck, I even smoked hotdogs for the kids. They said they were yummy. (I didn’t try them because I was too busy eating pulled pork.)
• Extremely consistent temperatures
• Can be used as a grill, smoker or convection oven
• Well build and very sturdy
• Economical pellet burn (I would invest in a welder’s blanker (sold on Amazon) for outside temperatures below 30 degrees as you will burn more pellets than usual if you do not.
• Armatures like myself can use it and product great results.
• You will spend more money on meat as you will use the darn thing all the time

After years of smoking with an old school barrel smoker that required constant attention throughout the smoking process, I decided to upgrade to a pellet grill. Friends and family directed me to Rec Tec.
This unit is everything that I read about. It is built like a tank and the customer service is the best.
I haven't put it t a full test, yet, but a lower temp smoke worked for the salmon, the bone-in turkey breast came out well as did the brisket that I treated my coworkers to.
More to come.

Down here in the great state of Texas we love our smoked meat. For 30 plus years I have been staying up all night feeding wood into my stick smoker. Not to mention running all over buying and hauling wood. Those days are over for me, the fed-ex guy leaves my pellets at the front door, I set my temp on my rec tec and go to bed... What a GREAT way to enjoy smoking not to mention the end results taste great..Thanks for a terrific grill..

I have had the grill for a month and am very pleased with the ease of use and performance. First, it was not difficult to assemble the grill with the assistance of the video on the Rec Tec website. My brother-in-law has a Green Mountain Grill (GMG) that I considered long with other models including Yoder. I picked the Rec Tec due to its described features (no dealer so I had to do a lot of research and trust the reviews and videos), price point and appearance. I was not disappointed. The grill is solid and performs as described. The GMG was too flimsly. While the Yoder may be thicker and heavier, the difference to me was not important because I prefer the more efficient pellet burn rate of the Rec Tec (1-1.5 lbs/hour compared to 2.5-3 lbs/hour).
Second, the grill is very easy to use even I am new to indirect grilling/smoking. I have grilled pork butt, brisket, chuck roast, fish, crab legs, stuffed jalapenos and bacon. In most cases, the results have been spectacular. On the occasion when the chuck roast did not come out as tender as I anticipated (I believe due to my inexperience and lack of familiarity with "low and slow" grilling, my wife saved the roast in a crock pot and we had some of the most flavorful pulled roast (as opposed to pulled pork) sandwiches I have ever encountered.
Finally, I have an existing Lynx gas grill with infra red searing function that has been virtually ignored since getting the Rec Tec. I am looking forward to using the Rec Tec in combination with the gas grill sear feature to see what I can get out of a good ribeye.

I have had my Rec Tec grill for 2 weeks. I have used it in 10 degree weather with no issues. I have smoked spare ribs a pork tenderloin and baked potatoes. They were all fantastic. My wife said that she is looking forward to what ever I choose for Sunday dinner.
I would recommend this grill to anyone!

WE love our grill! It went together easy..buy the way, out here on Camano Island I live on a dead end road..had to meet the big rig and we got this into the back of my Prius! It was a site, but I gotter done! And better than that..customer service could not be better! Any company that will give you their private cell phone numbers is at the top of my list! And so VERY nice! Thanks again.

The RecTec is fantastic. Very well build, excellent customer service, and a real performer. It excels at smoking and also grilling while keeping the meat extremely moist. I have never had chicken or beef stay as moist as it does on the RecTec.

The grill arrived within a week of ordering and assembly was quite easy. If you ever assembled something from IKEA you will appreciate how simple this is to get up and running. Build quality is so much more formidable and solid than other grills that I had considered. I've used it a number of times and the other reviews were true. It's difficult to mess up your meal. I would definitely put this grill on your short list when you are considering what to buy.

This grill is just amazing took me about an hour to put it together. After that I did th burn in and seasoned it with a couple rounds of bacon. First cook was super bowl Sunday with a house full. Best steaks I have ever cooked no worries of flare up or over cooking. Everyone raved about them that night. Next cook smoked a couple of butts never have done it before. Turned out amazing. If you are considering this grill buy it!!!!!

Been cooking many years and using gas and charcoal for most of that time. Then a few years back I got the opportunity to use a Rec-Tec at a gathering we hold each year. We also had a Yoder and a MAC to use at the same time, so a back to back test was very easy.
After using all three I found the Rec-Tec to be ahead of the pack. Easy to use, holds 40 lbs of pellets and is the large cooking area allowed for many different cooks at one time. But what really sold me on the Rec-Tec was the fact that the Rec-Tec's we were using were a few years old and showed some wear but NEVER FAILED to start or maintain the temp set for the four days we used them.
We used these same units for three years and still no issues. These are built like tanks!
Add the fact of a SIX year warranty and it's a NO BRAINER.

This is, he best grill I have ever owned. It makes me look like a pit master. Made pork ribs for my first run and they came out better than any rib restrant I have ever eaten at. The one ; ng O wish came with it was some recipients. I would recommend this grill to anyone.

I just wanted to give you guys a first impression review of what I received. I picked up the starter pack. Basically the grill, grill cover and 80# of pellets. I like smoking with pecan so I picked some of those pellets up elsewhere.
Anyways everything was very well packaged with foam and there was no way it was moving. The plastic handles on the boxes fell into the box but I had no plans of picking it up that way in the first place.
I got right into putting it together. The instructions were very easy to follow. The only issue I ran into was that the allen screws for the pull handle were a different size than the 2 allen wrenches provided. Not an issue at all (if you're ordering this badass grill, you have tools) just thought I would mention it.
I was very surprised to see that the Xtreme smoke option was on the grill and that was the only thing that I heard most pellet grills need to do better is more smoke, so I was very excited.
I got it all put together (pretty heavy) plugged it in and ran through the startup process. It was very easy. The only other comment I would like to make there is that it would be nice that each pellet hopper side was segregated so that you could mix say pecan/hickory half and half (maybe not something everyone does). Also, what to do if I want to change pellets to something different for say fish, but that's something that every pellet grill has not just Rec Tec. I fired it up, set it to 400, and seasoned it with a good run of bacon on there.
Then over the weekend I smoked two sets of baby back ribs on there. The amount of room on this grill is amazing. You can fit a complete Sunday dinner on there. They came out great with a beautiful smoke ring using the Xtreme smoke option. The best part was that I could set them on the grill and go do anything else I wanted to. Which that weekend was tearing shingles off my roof to prepare for new ones. If I was smoking with my old setup I would not have been able to do so. I used the 3-2-1 method, and they came out wonderful.
Last night Grilled some chicken breasts and they came out so juicy. I was very impressed.
One other slight concern I have is the grill cover. Is there a better trick to install and removal than what I'm doing? It seems to take some work to get it off and on and I'm afraid I'm going to tear it. It fits perfectly don't get me wrong, but Maybe just a little too perfectly. Any help there would be appreciated.
Overall. I couldn't not be happier with my purchase. It's glorious. I'm not sure I'm going to use my oven and it's the dead of winter right now. I can't wait to try more recipes on the grill.
Thank you so much!!

ive been smoking briskets and shoulders for about 15 years in the northeast on a weber smokey mountain. I've spent years tweaking and experimenting, and finally have gotten into a routine where quality is consistently good. The wsm is awesome don't get me wrong. But the problem in the northeast is that weather makes it tough for the thin metal of the wsm to consistently hold in heat for long stretches of time. So I spend more time than I should nursing the temperature, and since I prefer to smoke in the winter i am subject to the elements in a big way.
So enter the rectec. I put three shoulders on the smoker at 5pm the night before the super bowl, and for those not in my neck of the woods, it was cold, really cold (low single digits, and below zero with wind). All I can say is the rectec absolutely crushed it. I held the shoulders at 225 for 23 hours, and never once went outside to check the temp, only occasionally heading out to inject and admire. The mechanics are simple but consistent and reliable. The thick steel holds heat very well.
The shoulders were perfect, 205 with a crisp bark on the outside and a thick pink smoke ring inside. I was told this cook was my best work. Great product rectec guys. I'm impressed by the whole package.

I bought a Trager from Costco and after several uses the the grill could no longer keep temperature. We were reading reviews on the Trager about the same temperature issue and RecTec's name came up over and over about being a superior grill. After looking over the features ordered the RT-680. With in a hour i got a phone call from RecTec confirming the order and shipping. Shipping took less than a week by ground. Grill was packaged well and RecTec even threw in a free bag of pellets! Installation was a breeze and after the 1 hour burn in we started cooking on it. Besides the fact the food is amazing the grill can hold a temperature to the degree! Its super easy to start up, easy to clean and looks awesome. Its easily the best grill for the money in my opinion.

I have been reading about this smoker for 1.5years and I finally just made the plunge and bought it. It showed up in Michigan within 2 days and I took delivery on the 4th day. I received a personal phone call letting me know that my grill had shipped not just an email. The customer service is amazing. This grills craftsmanship is amazing. It's solid and heavy. Not a single part is weak or lack quality.
I haver a BGE and I couldn't imagine anyting cooking better than it. I was wrong! The Rec Tec cooks/smokes as good if not better. I prefer the Rec Tec because I get great tasting moist food without a 45 minute startup process. If you have a ceramic smoker you know how hard it is to get it started, up to temp and find the sweet spot for the temp you are looking for. With my Rec Tec I push a button and walk away. It holds the temp just as good as my BGE for long cooks too. I seriously couldn't recommend it enough. You wont be sorry!!!!

This is truly a beautiful grill with excellent construction. Also like that the folks at RECTEC were so personable. Have had many cuts of meat on the RECTEC and all have been great. I'm having to adjust my style a bit and include some extra time for some things but the taste is worth it: fantastic. Can't wait for Turkeyday-have to do a dry run in the spring!

Did a lot of research in order to find the perfect smoker-grill, was not disappointed in my final choice. The product and customer support have been outstanding. This is BBQ at it's best. I actually believe it is impossible to cook bad food on this grill. Even the simplest of meat (burgers and Hot Dogs) are taken to a new level. Excellent job REC TEC!!!

Extraordinary! Product and customer service. Ordered thursday before Thanksgiving and arrived wenesday before Thanksgiving,(All way to New England!) cooked the BEST turkey ever!
I have Bbq'd and/or smoked ribs, salmon, game hens, whole chicken, chicken wings (OMG GOOD), potatoes, bacon, pork belly, duck, pizza (on a stone), steak (finished over charcoal), rib roast, all to juicy perfection!
Without question the best made and convenient grill I have owned.(I am over 50)
I have added a "Smoke Daddy" unit to my Rec Tec to get a satisfactory smoke level though. I find the "extreme Smoke" function to really not be anything near extreme!
There was a small flaw with the unit which was resolved promptly by a very courteous member of their team, and fast shipment of a new auger motor...Kudos
Overall I can't think of a better thing I have purchased to take my Bbq to a new / easier dimension! Thanks Rec Tec!!!!!

Anyone looking for a smoker, the Rec Tec grill is the superior choice. This is truly a set it and forget it smoker and delivers perfect meat everytime with very little effort. It has plenty of cooking space, maintains temperature consistently, easy to clean, efficient, great temperature range (I've seared steaks on it) and probably the best part is the quality and customer service. The Rec Tec team is more than helpful, honest and deliver a well built product. Me personally, I will never own another smoker besides a Rev Tec. Once you purchase from these guys the customer service doesn't stop there, it continues like you are part of their family. Don't settle for inferior products and service.

The REC TEC intrigued me because of it's innovation. I was hooked by watching the videos of how to cook like a master chef with ease. I appreciate the amount of time Ray and his team have put into promoting this grill. When I finally purchased one, I was very pleased with the build quality and attention to detail on the grill. I look forward to learning more about preparing great meals on my new grill.
One thing to keep in mind though. This is not a gas grill or a charcoal grill. This thing is in a class of its own. It operates with convection heat and smoking by purpose. When you open the lid, the grill temp can drop 100 degrees. It will heat back up but keep from fanning the lid by constantly checking your food! Get a remote temp probe so you can check the meat without opening the lid. The art is in the timing as if you were baking a cake. Prepare your meat, put it on the grill, and leave it alone! Follow the videos for some great ideas and procedures!

This is by far the best grill/smoker purchase I have ever made. I researched for a month or more and it came down to the RECTEC and I'm glad it did. I love the ease of starting and cooking. Thus far I have grilled steaks burgers and dawgs. Smoked a rack of ribs anf a beer in the rear chicken and even a Chris Lilly recipe for chicken and sausage pizza. Everything has come out better and with more flavor than from any grill or smoker I have ever owned. I have told all of my friends about it and they are looking into the RECTEC for their next grill purchase. GREAT PRODUCT!!!!!

After a great deal of research I chose this grill. It arrived in about a week. This is a very well built, sturdy and cool looking grill. Itr is my first pekkey smoker. I have other charcoal smokers and wanted to add trhis to my collection. My first smoke with this grill was a pork loin. Cooked it low and slow and it came out great. The thing I really like on how this is a set it and forget it grill. Came off the grill within 10 minutes of the timw I planed and had a great taste and smoke ring. I supplemented the smoke with the smoke tube and some apple pellets. If you are on the fence I woul recommend this grill. You wont regret it.

I bought this grill blind at first, not knowing anybody that had or used one. I did a lot of research looking for the perfect smoker grill. Have tried all the top line pellet grills, because my family is very big into grilling. So I wanted better. The first time I cooked withy new rec rec about a year ago, I was shocked on how easy and good it did. It's actually hard to screw meats up on this grill. I absolutely love it. Puts out amazing smoke rings on the meat. Everything is always juicy. No real hot spots. And the best part is the customer service. I've never had cs this good. Would never go to another grill again. Thank you tec tec and keep it up!

I previously purchased a Traeger Lil Tex and the barrel rotted out in 1 1/2 years.
In addition, after being covered for 10 days while it rained, the pellets cemented the auger so it was inoperable.
Trager sent a new barrel but told me that I didn't clean/disassemble the auger appropriately (my son and I have undergraduate degrees and spent a combined 5 hours trying to take the rusted thing apart and cleaning it).
The Traeger is supposed to be warranted for 3 years but I threw it in the trash after being insulted by Traeger customer support.
Don't make the same mistake I did, the Rec Tec is superior - easier to assemble, holds more pellets, electrical connections cleaner and easier and just made sturdier. And, the inside light is a great touch.
Only con is that the cover is really tight and a bit of a challenge to put on.

I have smoked 3 briskets so far and have been pleased with the performance of the Grill. I have noticed a little grease leaking out the sides because the drip pan does not cover the whole grill rack area, but overall the temp is always consistent and the briskets turned out great.

Awesome Grill, I have several friends with other pellet grills (they were what motivated me to get one) and they are all regretting their purchases after seeing my new RecTec. Great quality super easy to use. Great looking and produces awesome results. On top of all this RecTec provides outstanding customer service

I had a buddy recommend this grill to me; I'm a little frugal so while I saved my money, I recommended it to another buddy. I got so tired of the two of them telling me how awesome their Rec Tec's were, that I bit the bullet and got one earlier than I had anticipated. Could not be happier. The only thing holding this grill back is me, and I'm learning more about grilling every weekend. I expect good savings just from not flaming up and burning our food anymore. Can't wait to do serious stuff like prime rib and butts.

Have had the smoker/grill about 3 weeks. My husband, who put it together, said he was very impressed with the quality, heavy duty construction. I've smoked beef jerkey twice and ribs. Grilled pork loin and hamburgers - everything has turned out great. We had purchased a Traeger from costco, but was very unhappy with the swing of temperature, so retuned it and bought the Rec Tec instead, amazing difference. Cost a couple hundred more, but in the long run well worth the price difference. Have to say I'm disapponted it didn't come with a cover. Living in Mnnesota, this will be a necessity. All in all, very happy with this smoker/grill.

Just got my Rec Tec or Christmas and what a grill. My first pellet smoker was a traeger in 2007 and I thought that was great. I have read where Traeger has gone down hill since so I saw the great reviews of Rec Tec and all the reviews are spot on. First of all you wont believe the high quality of the parts and how heavy the unit is. It is very easy to put together and the huge hopper is a big plus. The thermostat keeps the temp right on the number and this is while is 20 degrees outside. What I did learn is all pellets are not created equal. The Rec Tec pellets gice the meat a wonderful flavor, not overpowering but just right. The grill has plenty of room i smoked 6 racks of iribs 6 beef short robs and a 9lb beer can chicken at the same time, this grill is a tremendous value for this price.

First, the crew at Rec Tec are the greatest. They personally called me after I placed my order. I called their support and they promptly called me back. (I read the instructions wrong, so it was not their fault at all) This grill is super well built and work great. I am so glad i did research before purchasing. I was leaning towards a Traeger, but after reading all the review I decided to go with the Rec Tec and could not be happier. I have already recommended it to several friends. This thing takes the guess work and constant tuning completely out of the equation. The grill is totally set it and forget it. (or should I say, set it and go have a few beers..lol) Best bang for your buck. None of the other grills in this price range even come close to the quality of this smoker. I cannot say enough good things about my Rec Tec.
Posted by Matt Hirn on 29th Dec 2014
The quality of the grill is everything that I was hoping for when I ordered it .
I have already cooked a pot roast and smoked two turkey breasts in it. The results were excellent , because the Rec Tec does the work of maintaining temperature and tending the fire.
The customer service is top notch, just as everyone has said. My shipment sat for a few days with no call from UPS to schedule delivery. I told the folks at Rec Tec about the delay and I received a call from UPS within the hour to schedule delivery.
I have no regrets for making this purchase. I will enjoy smoking/cooking on this grill for many years.

I purchased the rec tech grill for my husband for Christmas. The service was amazing, they were so helpful and I even have personal cell phone numbers of the owners. That kind of service is unheard of nowadays. He received it early and has cooked a few things on it, everything tasted phenomenal! this grill has definitely brought him to a new level with his barbecuing which was already awesome.

A guest from Ohio at our bed and breakfast in South
Georgia (Inn at Still Pond) told us about a great smoker/grill that someone in Georgia made. He spoke so highly about it that we decided to purchase one. He was right. It is great. Although the fan was defective and the control panel had to be replaced along with the fan, the service was great. The customer service guy even offered to bring the part to us. From what we have experienced so far, these Augusta, Ga guys are great and their product is great.

I would have given 5 stars but shipping was very challenging and I ebded up with a replacement because the smoker was damaged. That said, customer service was great: professional, courteous and quick to resolve issues. We 've already smoked 2 turkeys, a rack of ribs and a trip tip roast because this is effortless to use. It keeps temp and is easy to clean.
