I've had the RT-680 for a month. My first impression when I opened the box was how well it was packed. Done well with nothing scratched, broken or missing. While assembling it (which I found to be easy) I was amazed at the quality and ruggedness of the construction. This grill is lives up to everything I read about before I bought it and more. I'd buy another in the future..

I've done the weber, gas, electric and even the big green egg, but this is the grill I've been waiting for. It is an investment but it's worth every penny!
I tip my hat to the kind folks at Rec Tec!

This is my first pellet grill, but this will be the only pellet grill I ever own! A pellet grill has been on my list for years, and when I finally was ready to jump in, I did a lot of research, which brought me to the REC TEC. I was a little concerned with the price at first, but after doing more research, I placed my order and never looked back. This product makes me look like a BBQ master, yes so simple to use. My sons and I are excited to take this grill into the summer and see exactly what we can do with this. I would recommend this grill to anyone!

Excellent product. Purchased because I've read all the reviews of this and other products as well as a friend owning one. After using for the first few times it has more than lived up to its reputation. 10lb pork butt, 16 hours... PERFECTION.
Side note- UPS really screwed up and sent my grill across the country, needless to say I was upset. Called REC TEC and Ben was awesome. Shipped me a new grill immediately even though it was no fault of theirs. All I can say is "ABOVE AND BEYOND". Thanks to everyone at REC TEC for a great product and exceptional customer service!

I am new to smoker cooking. I looked and researched for a long time before purchasing this grill. I was looking for something to replace my gas grill and that could also do the "low and slow" cooking I enjoy eating. This grill does both very well! I have done whole chickens, pork butts, chicken wings, hamburgers, pork ribs and even cooked the pineapple cake that is on Rec Tec's site, and they all turned out great. As a novice to smokers it has taken me a little time to get used to how to cook on it but I think I have it figured out now. I have pretty much cooked per the recipes on the website and they are right on. The hardest part to me is not opening the lid b/c I want to see how its cooking, but this thing is a true "set it and forget it". I wanted to wait until I had actually cook multiple items on the grill before giving it a review b/c there are so many great reviews you never know what is true... let me tell you this grill is the "Truth"! I will never go back to gas!

Really better than advertised! Before, cooking outdoors was a lesson in patience, soaking wood chips, varying air flow, etc....but now all that is gone. Ease of use, setup, clean, etc. is an added bonus to a fantastic cook.
Many jealous friends who now want to join Team RecTec.

When I received my Rec Tec grill it had been damaged in shipment. I called customer service and talked to Ray. This was on Saturday. Ray said that he would take care of it. The next Monday I received an email that said that it had been shipped. I received the replacement Friday of the same week. They also sent me 80 pounds of pellets at no additional charge. Customer service doesn't get any better than this. The grill worked beyond my expectations. This company is truly a five star company in all regards.

First time smoker here and very pleased with my Rec-Tec! Works perfect and there's plenty of recipes out there to keep you busy ofr a long time. The huge benefit here is the ease of use and cleanup. The pellet hopper is big enough for multiple smokes and this thing regulates the temps perfectly. The neighbors tell me I'm cheating when they have to tend their smokers with wood and charcoal, something I wanted to avoid.

Fired up the grill for the first time this Memorial Day weekend. First up, pork butt for some mouth watering pulled pork. I loaded up the grill with 15 lbs of pork after the grill came up to temp (225F) for low and slow cook. I prepared the pork in advance after overnight salt cure and then a generous dusting of Memphis Meathead Dust, a la amazingribs.com While it took about 14 hours to reach the ideal 195-203F internal temp, the wait was worth it. Rave reviews from all.
Next was 3 full rack of baby back ribs. Once again, everyone loved 'em.
The grill worked to perfection. It held temp throughout the cook. The only variation occurred, as expected, after I opened the lid to apply a Texas Crutch to the stalled pork butt. More than 20 hours of grilling, and I still have pellets in the hopper. Nice job guys!

i have grilled/smoked/barbecued for many years. I have never had a pit that was so easy to use as this. If you can turn on an oven, you can use the Rec-Tec pit. It is absolutely easy to use and maintain. I have cooked for a combined total of about 25 hours and still have only used about 20 lbs of pellets.

This grill is seriously well made! The thing weighs a ton and is clearly very high quality. I've done burgers and ribs on it so far and they've turned out better than any other grill or smoker I've used before. Did chicken last night that usually has extreme flare-ups on conventional grills when I've grilled it before (I've had two major grease fires before as a result of this chicken) - no grease fires on the Rec Tec AND it was the best chicken I've ever done on a grill. Looking forward to grilling/smoking more!

So far I love this grill. The folding shelf would be nicer if it was mounted higher.
I did have a bit of an assembly issue though. I had completely finished assembly and realized I needed the two front leg bolts removed to mount the folding shelf. I went to remove the two bolts and one came off fine, the second loosened about one turn and got tight as ***. I then had to drill it out. Upon closer inspection of the one that came off okay I noticed that the threads were distressed so I went off to the hardware store to buy two new stainless bolt and nuts. These are large bolts (10mm) and no I didn't over torque them with my hand tools. The build quality overall is very good but I do question the quality of those stainless bolts.

It's only been a few days of using the grill, but I am impressed by its durability and consistency. I purchased the searing grill kit ( I think it's a must) with the grill. Looks impressive on my deck as it impresses my neighbors. Very glad I chose a wood pellet grill as well as choosing a RecTec. .

absolutely LOVE it - we've done: pulled pork, ribs, roasts, shishkabobs, steaks, chops & burgers - seriousely, the BEST burgers ever (as well as everything else). Will be ordering the remote thermometer & winter jacket next. Unfortunately, the cover seems to be too tight (i can't get my wife to wear clothes this tight). The cover poses quite a challenge getting it on & off. EXTRA caution is advised to prevent ripping it on the many corners. I think i may take it to a seamstress & have a zipper put on the smokestack end (BTW Rec Tec, if you use that idea for future covers i will be requiring LOTS of pellets). Speaking of pellets, Would like to buy different pellets seperately for CUSTOM mixes. This doesn't seem possible with Rec Tec - Overall, GREAT product!!!!! As well, customer service......FANTASTIC!!! csr Ben is my HERO!!!!

When I first started looking for a smoker, I looked at the electric models. Problem was they could only smoke which meant I would still need a grill. Then I stumbled across the Rec Tec, a smoker and grill all in one. After some trouble with shipping (make sure you have on-street parking for an 18 wheeler or you will have issues with delivery), I finally received my Rec Trec and wasted no time assembling it. Assembly was easy and the quality of the components was impressive, no tin and aluminum here. My son and I did the original burn in then smoked a pound of bacon to season the grill. Without a doubt the best bacon we ever had, the entire pound was gone in minutes. Since then we have made a bacon wrapped meatloaf, chicken breasts, hot dogs and a london broil ... all tasted excellent. So glad I chose the Rec Tec, a smoker and grill all in one that works as advertised.

I have had a Traeger lil-tex for 10 years and love it. However I wanted a bigger grill so I naturally gravitated to Traeger again. But after looking at them again in a showroom it appeared they cheapened up. When i saw the Rec-Tec reviews being pretty good and no nonsense features I didn't need I jumped on it. I was a little leary not being able to see it in a showroom however it's pretty nice for the money. The Traeger XL was close to the same price but definately not as solid feeling. The fan on the Rec-Tec is alot louder than my Traeger lil-tex though. The RecTec controller goes to 500 degrees and my Traeger barely would get to 400 on a good day. So I'm pretty happy so far with the results and everyone loves the look of the bull horns.

I knew id advance that this purchase experience would be different than most, but front to back the entire experience has been beyond anything that any of the other customers before me had said. Maybe I'm just cynical because today what people usually mean by great customer service is what I would have though was normal or average before. RecTec has a corporate culture that redefines the entire experience from pre-purchase questions to ordering, delivery, installation and usage. Yes, the product is superior, but there are a lot of well-made products that need (and lack) the support I want after the fact. RecTec is a truly exceptional company with a truly great product.

I purchased my first barbeque grill in 1972 and since then I have owned five different grills, some with charcoal briquettes and some using propane gas. I can say without hesitation that the Rec Tec Grill is the best I have ever used. It is so easy to start, the temperature remains where you set it, the heat is evenly distributed across the grill, it takes little effort to clean, and it looks magnificent sitting on my back deck. . So far I have cooked fish, chicken, a beef roast, and a pork roast on the grill and all of them were excellent. I sent a picture of the grill to my son and he thought it looked like a piece of art. I think he is going to buy one in the near future. You people did an extraordinary job producing this grill.

I really like the looks and the pellet capacity of this unit. Unfortunately I am having an issue with the temperature yo yoing every 5 minutes from about 196 degrees to 219 degrees. I spoke with technical support today and was walked through the process of changing the feed rate of the pellets. I am hopeful this will resolve the issue. Technical support was very friendly and responded quickly to my issue. I am a tall person and I do wish the legs on the unit were taller as I have to bend over to tend the meat on the grill. All in all, if the temperature issue can get resolved I am pleased with this purchase.

I bought a Traeger BBQ75 a little over a year ago and enjoyed cooking on it very much, but then I found the Rec Tec on-line and had to have one. I have used my Rec Tec for a little more than a month and have found it to be fantastic! Of course the food is great, but what really impresses me is the build quality of the grill. From all of the stainless steel to the caulking of the barrel seams to the pellet hopper and more, Rec Tec is head and shoulders above the Traeger in build quality. I feel great about purchasing this product and now my son-in-law is happy to have my used Traeger! I added the front shelve (more stainless) and the searing grates which are awesome. Rec Tec, you hit a home run with this grill!!!

The Rec Tec grill has performed exactly as it was described. I researched all types of smoker grills having been a religious hard wood charcoal cooker. Keeping the right temp on the charcoal smoker was a labor of love and I wasn't always successful. The RecTec on the other hand held the temp within 2-3 degrees for hours! I highly recommend adding a wireless meat thermometer and then you have the complete package! You will not be dissapointed.

Received my RT about 3 weeks ago and this thing is a BEAST... After reading reviews and watching videos for over a year, to actually have it now and use it is everything and more than expected. I've used it a couple of times and the result was fantastic. Well worth the wait.

If you are going to smoke any type of meet with perfection, this is your grill.
Easy to set up, easy to operate and best results.
Also, the customer support (even on a holiday) is unequal.
I am glad I stayed away from the cheap models.
Thank you Ray and Ben.

I, initially, purchased a Traeger from Costco. I bought into what the salesman was selling. I did a few internet searchers with mixed results. The thought behind the grill was "set it and forget it". However, I needed or wanted something that would be easy to run so my wife and kids could also operate it.
Anyway, brought the Traeger home and found that the temperature would fluctuate widely. That led me to doing a lot of internet searching and reading bbq forums (granted should have done before buying it). During that process one particular name started to show up - Rec Tec. Then I started researching Rec Tec and found consistently high reviews. I finally called the company and spent about 20 min on the phone with Ben, did some research, tried the Traeger a little more. Honestly, I was hesitant about purchasing a grill that I had never seen. After a couple of weeks I thought with a 30 day return policy why not......best decision I could have made. Took the Traeger back to Costco and waited for the Rec Tec.
Now, over a year has passed and I'm now the official Grill Master for my family and friends. I get requests all the time to smoke something. There's nothing I can't cook, grill, or smoke on my Rec Tec. In fact I'm hoping to start doing amature competition in the next year.
The customer service is second to none -- those guys will take a direct call or return your call and go beyond what's needed. In fact they've gotten to know me via facebook we're also posting pictures of our cooks - it's become a community.

Easy, and fun to use. The only thing bad is when you first grill with it there is no grill flavor. I'm hoping this comes with time as I continue to season the grill. I love smoking on it! Best smoke ring I have ever had!!!

I bought this grill after much research with other similar brands. I have not been disappointed. Neither will you!! And the customer service? Top notch. Best culinary purchase ever!

With the youtube video, it was quick and easy to build. I built it by myself with the exception of having my neighbor help me to stand it up.
Great looking stove and works perfectly. I lost one of my bolts and the cover I purchased had a slight tear at the seam. Customer service shipped replacements for both right away.
I have cooked chickens, pulled port, rib-eyes, and ribs. All have turned out perfectly. Make sure you have a temperature probe next to the meat as there can be a delta between the meat and the built in temp sensor

This grill is perfect for the 'Low Maintenance' type of chef. The temperature regulation is very accurate and it is so versatile. The added extreme smoke feature can make a marginal cut of meat or frozen pizza taste amazing.
It is easy to enjoy this smoker/grill.

I have never written a review before, I have had pellet grills for 15 years and so far after 2 weeks the Rectec grill is top notch . The pellet consumption is excellent and the grill holds temperature with in a few degrees. the food that comes off the grill is amazing, I have run close to 80 lbs of pellet through the grill from cooking 8 pork butts slow and low at one time ( yes you can put 8 butts on this grill ) to making pizzas at 450 degs. It's easy to assemble and move around there warranty is about the best out there. i feel you won't be disappointed with a Rectec

I received my RecTec on time with no issues. Unit was well packaged and it took me about 1 hour to put together. I really appreciate all of the nuts/bolts/washers/screws, etc. all being stainless steel! When putting the unit together I was impressed with the gauges of steel being used. This unit is built to last. I have only cooked on it five times so I am still learning. But all meals have turned out perfectly! I would buy again in a minute!

I just finished some baby back ribs on the 321 method. They turned out great! Wife was well pleased. The crazy part was it rained on the grill off and on most of the day. That should be hard for any grill to deal with but this grill held the temp the whole time! I was very impressed! So glad I saved my coins and got one of these.

I had trouble putting the money down for this grill cause I never heard of pellet smokers but it was the best thing I ever did. I love the trouble free cooking. I have more time to spend with my friends instead of constantly monitoring the grill. I have cooked just about everything on the grill and have no complaints. The tech support is great as well. They are always willing to help me even if it's the weekend.

It’s a smoker/grill you don’t expect it to be NASA quality for sure but WOW this is not the typical construction we have all gotten used to expecting. This thing is well designed and build. From the ball bearing wheels to the nuts and bolts. The fit and finish is definitely something that is going to last many years and look good. This all combined with the fun of your friends seeing it for the first time and hearing them say “what the heck is this thing” Yep it’s an attention grabber.
Great Job REC TEC

Very well built grill. The only thing I would change is to add about four inches to the legs. So the cooking platform is a little higher. I would definitely recommend this grill to any one. I might even get another one for at the cabin

As i get older i have starting writing reviews, certainly for the best and worst products and customer service.
This product is everything that is advertised. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it.
I have been using cheaper smokers for a number of years and have been looking at pellet smokers for sometime now. I only wanted something that will last for years and found what i wanted but the price was more than i wanted to pay. Then i stumbled across this product. After much research and many reviews later i ordered it.
It is everything i ever wanted for a price that did not break the bank.

What a great cooking machine !
Great service before and after the sale -Thanks

I do not normally write review of products, but I am inclined to do so for the RecTec after one year of use. I am a complete novice when it comes to smoking (so, take this for what its worth), although I have done a lot of cooking for groups of people for over 15 years. The RecTec is built great like everyone says and their customer service is top notch.
What is important to know about the RecTec is that is a great product for someone to start out and continue to use when they are more experienced. It takes the novice screw-ups of trying to get the temp right out of the equation, and you can focus on the meat and the recipe. It took me three or four cooks to refine my final rib recipe and now it is perfect every time. Great product!

I have a Traeger that I have smoked on the last 4 years. The Rec Tec is built better and you get a better smoke on the meat. One thing it needs is ability to add another shelf inside smoker.

I purchased this grill after much research 2 years ago. I was apprehensive dropping $999 on a grill. This thing has performed flawlessly. I have tried smoking, cooking. cold smoking cheese, making my own bacon, and more. I have smoked 6 Boston Butts at a time, and only 1/2 a Chicken. The versatility of this thing is awesome. The customer service team is awesome. I have won 2 local competitions with this grill for my brisket and spare ribs. I even roll it into my toy hauler camper and take it with me to sporting events (all my buddies rave about what I cook). My wife has commented 7 times "that's the best thing you've made on that grill" Looking forward to number 8. You just can't go wrong with this versatile cooking tool!

I am retired so I did a lot of research... I believe this grill to be worth the price... I am very familiar with three pellet grills in this price range, and having used the REC Tec 680 twice now I am appreciative of my purchase...
I live in northern CA and could not believe how fast my RT-680 arrived... And what surprised me more was the completely undamaged box/shipping container, not one rip...
And the people you deal with are great...

awesome grill, worth every penny, is everything they say it is in the you tube videos. For those of you who are on the fence about price and consumption of pellets, get off the fence . Very efficient fraction of the cost of charcoal. I looked for three months and checked out the competitors. Buy a Rec Tec. There is no comparison.

Ladies - Are you looking for that way to say "I'm sorry for spending that extra grand at the Pampered Chef party?" Did you come home from the neighborhood bunco game at 4 a.m. without both of your shoes and want tell him you're sorry? Do you want to make every woman on the street jealous and make every man on the street scream your name while they sleep? Do you want to be that wife who always buys the coolest gift for their man? Do you want to be the house where all the other men on the street hang out? If this is you, then you need to buy the Rec Tec Grill for your husband. Nothing says I'm sorry, or makes the other women jealous, or makes the other men dream about you, or creates a party at your house like this masterpiece. This pellet smoker is the best available smoker on the market and makes every cook a hero, and every woman who buys it for their man - forgiven.
Men - Do you need that perfect Mother's day gift for your wife that says "I just want to spend more time with you baby?" Is there just not enough time to go get than mani and pedi with her lately? If you're always the one on the hook for all the cooking when you entertain but it comes at the cost of all that cuddling time with her, then you need the Rec Tec Grill. The set-it-and-forget-it technology contained within this pellet smoker creates amazing results without costing you your marriage. Nothing says I love you for Mother's Day like a Rec Tec Grill.

I am personally pretty new to smoking however my father in law has had his mak 2 star general for years as well as a louisana grills lg900 for a brief time until it broke and was returned. I watched and learned through his experience, I was doing research(both online and at local grill outlets) and not liking the available options in the budget which I could afford without saving for another few months for a mak 2. Then I found the rec tec. I was very hesitate spending this amount of money on something I couldn't touch/see in person. I researched more, called rec tec and spoke to Ben 3 separate times... (he is very helpful and never pushy, stated facts and answered questions) I ordered it on the 3rd phone call... it has been here for 4 weekends and has cooked 11 times without any issues! Great quality costruction that translates to a user friendly grill capable of producing great food!
The only things I would change at this point are listed below.
1) optional 2nd grill grate (in the works according to what I read)
2) a pellet hopper dump.
3) back ligniting or external light on the control unit.
Pretty short list when comparing a $1,160.00 grill to a $2,400.00 grill which is much smaller and also lacks the 3rd item on the wish list.
Very very pleased, my father in law is so impressed he ordered a mini today after we cooked 3 briskets, 3 chickens and 8 racks of ribs for easter dinner.

I was told by several people that this smoker was very well built and worked very well. I have used it twice and it is almost embarrassing how easy it is to make a good brisket. If you want great bbq, this will be perfect to make slow cooked smoked meats. I like the appearance also, because it has a less industrial look to it.

Easy to assemble, and even easier to use. Great build quality. Everybody raved about the two butts I smoked low and slow following Ray's video instructions, even made the slaw. They were perfection and all I did was put them on and take them off. Just the right amount of smoke for me. There was no tending. Basically, it is set it and forget it. Temperature stays constant. Couldn't be more pleased. Up next are ribs. I have no doubt they will be awesome too.

I bought this after seeing it used by a friend of mine on a really windy and cool day, as I am typically an offset stick burner I was impressed. That planted the seed and after a lot of research, and all the good reviews all over you tube and social media I was hooked.
The quality of the build and ease of operation is amazing not to mention the results! Absolutely great. I recommend this to everyone, experienced smoker or not.

I have used this grill at low and high temps to make ribs, burgers, steak, and meatloaf. This grill is a solid performer. I purchased the optional grill grates and the winter cover and even at below freezing temps this will sear a steak at 400°+.

I am beyond happy with this grill. It controls the temperature perfectly, uses high quality material, and is extremely efficient. Again, I couldn't be happier. Most importantly the food I have cooked on this grill has been absolutely amazing.

No fake reviews here, but if I wrote one, it'd just be repeating what has been said 350+ times! This thing is amazing. Definition of set and forget with amazing outcomes. A few years ago I tried smoking a pork loin on a gas grill with wood chips -- took forever without enough smoke and took constant maintenance. Fast forward to last weekend: I assembled it in about 30 minutes, did the bake in procedure, then threw a 25 lb pork shoulder butt on there. 12 hours later, it was some of the best barbecue I've had in a long time! and that was without any major marination/injection beforehand. The bark was incredible. Needless to say, it's barbecue for Easter this year! Customer Service is A+++

Had Traeger before. It would not hold temperature. Would fluctuate 5 to 8 degrees. Rec Tec stays right on the temperature set. Assembly quite easy and the quality of the grill is awesome. Love the inside light and the 40 lb. hopper works great when smoking a brisket or butt etc. for a long time. Smoked a butt for 11 hrs. and never had to add pellets. Also very important the customer service is beyond great. And last of all we love the chrome bull horn handles. What a touch!

I've had my REC TEC for about 2 months now and used it for ribs, trip-tip, turkey burgers and everything in between and I am not disappointed! Very easy to assemble, use and maintain. I've ran about 100 lbs. of pellets though it with minimal clean-up. I've been grilling and smoking with gas, wood and charcoal for many years but now I only have one grill on my property. By for one of the best purchases I have ever made!!

I reviewed several other smokers out there and nothing came close to the craftsmanship and pure coolness of the Rec Tec. No shortcuts or cheap materials at all.
You simply cannot ruin food on this thing it's so easy and fun.
I'm in commercial sales and this smoker / grill sells itself!

All my adult life grills have been a disposable item and so every few years you either rebuild or toss and get a new one. I have owned many and filled part of a land fill somewhere.
After assembling and using this fine beast, I told my wife " I should put this grill in my will!" It is built so substantially that If I take minimal care of it, it will outlast me.
I have made fish, beef, fowl and pizza and every time my food is tasty and juicy.
I have a quality chefs remote digital probe and just cook to the proper internal temperature and there you have some tasty food. The PID type controller has far less temperature swing that you oven in your kitchen. That can go plus and minus 30 degrees, that is a 60 degree swing!
When I uncrated the monster for assembly, I discovered the 80# of pellets I received were hickory and not the blend I had ordered. I also noticed I had not been charged for themon the packing slip. I contacted REC TEC and was promptly told "Oh we sent those at no charge we are temporarily out of the blend and will send you that when we can. A $99 value I might add!
Every contact with company has been quickly responded to in a very polite and cheerful manor, with personal follow up phone calls that surprised the hell out of me.
If you have to find a way to justify this purchase, just think out what you have or will spend on your typical gas or charcoal grill. I looked at Treager, they are all over. They are nice, but look cheap compared to my REC TEC.
I am sorry I didn't also order the drop down front tray, I will order that soon too!

I just purchased this Rec Tec and have only had the chance to use it once. Cooked some thick Ribeye Steaks on it and wow! Best steaks I've ever had! Great flavor, juicy, and tender. I can't wait to cook more things like ribs, pork shoulders, brisket, turkey, chicken, and beef tenderloin on it! I've told all my buddies to get a Rec Tec! I was a diehard charcoal user. Now it's wood pellets.

Did a lot of research before choosing a grill and couldn't be happier with my choice! Well built and designed!!

I love my new Rec Tec grill, have smoked: chicken wings, bacon, pork chops, turkey, all the food turned out perfect, love all the videos

The capabilities of this grill are unmatched in the industry! Not to mention the awesome costumer service! If you don't have one you're definitely missing out.

I received my Rec Tec only a few weeks ago, after reading the great reviews and doing some web browsing research. I've never owned a pellet grill before and I am only now learning how to properly cook on one, but so far I love this grill! The quality of its construction is beyond good and what little I had to put together fit perfectly. I haven't cooked anything really low & slow yet, but that's coming soon. The optional grill grates make steak searing easy and a real surprise. The optional grill cover is almost too custom-fit, but an email to Rec Tec and a quick response from Ben provided a video that showed how to easily take it on and off. I feel like this grill is a high-precision instrument, but incredibly simple to use. I've already used it about 6 or 8 times and I can't wait to get back at it!

I bought my REC-TEC on the advice of a good friend who had recently purchased the same grill and was thrilled with the quality of the grill and the food he cooked on it. I have to convey the same to others who are looking for a pellet grill to buy, I am 100% satisfied with the product and the flavor of the food that I have grilled. My family echoes my praise, which is even more important to me.

Love it! The constant temp make cooking a breeze. Not sure why I waited so long to get one.
Posted by D bryant on 23rd Mar 2015
Cooked four items so far, Boston butt, brisket, ribs, and shoulder all came out great and so easy. Can't wait to add more items and more pellets varieties.
Next up Prime Rib!

This grill so everything they describe and more. Have one in North Dakota that we use outdoors and has had no problem maintaining temps even at -40. Quality built and even better customer service. This grill is easy to operate and the food is perfect Everytime. Highly recommend this grill/smoker to everyone.

Smoker works great, easy to assemble and it is what my research said it should be. Customer service is great.

I AM in love with the rectec grill I bought my boyfriend! He absolutely. Loves it! He was always a Traeger man, but you've made him a believer and now all his friends want one! We're looking forward to many good meals coming off our new rectec grill!

My friend has a Treager and he says it is + or - 20 degrees. My RecTec is spot on with the temperature. Easy to use and easy to clean. A must have if you are done with boring food on a propane grill.
Posted by smokinhead on 19th Mar 2015
Everything you would expect! Holds temperature just as they say. Excellent construction. Easy to assemble. I recommend purchasing the remote thermometer. One of the keys to perfectection besides recipe is precise internal meat temperatures.
Posted by Jim Bunnell on 19th Mar 2015
Great product. Smoked food when temperature was in the twenties with ice and snow falling, held the temperature great. Food is awesome .

I just finished eating some of the best ribs I ever tasted, and last weekend ate what was absolutely the best pulled pork I ever made. The RecTec is an amazing grill, and worth every penny it costs and more. So why four stars and not five? It's actually not the grill's fault. It's the fault of an efficient pellet stove, which the RecTec is. More efficiency means less waste, like ash and... unfortunately, smoke. It just doesn't make much smoke, but that doesn't really matter in this case, temperature control matters, and I can make smoke easily with the smoke tubes they offer which work amazingly and simply well. I love this thing, more than any major appliance I've ever bought, and I'll apologize to RecTec right now for not giving it five stars. It deserves five stars, but not for smoking. If they threw in just one smoke tube, I'd give it six stars and count my blessings. It should be viewed and used as a system of which the smoke tubes are part. I've never made better BBQ, and I give my RecTec the credit. Outstanding product.
I will add this while I'm on the subject. I have always smoked with hickory and the mixed wood pellets are just not up to making good flavor. The first pork butt I smoked was just so so. The second one, using the mixed pellets in the grill and hickory pellets in the smoke tube was absolutely the best pulled pork I ever tasted. The wood you use matters.

I have been a fan of pellet grills for almost 10 years now. Got a Traeger for my birthday worked great at first. I am a caterer so of course I used it a lot. But Man, I had to replace the thermostat 3 TIMES. the lid , the hinges, the wheels . And the thermostats never worked well in my opinion. I then bought a Maks one star. Works fine, I don't care for the cooking area and the Temp controls are a bit complicated.........So now I have a Rec-Tec......OMG this thing is nice FAR Superior construction, Nice cooking area, simple, fast acting controls, and an interior light! I am soooo happy! Love my REC-TEC!!

This is truely a set it and forget it grill. No getting up in the middle of the night to tend a fire, no needing to add fuel or set vents, plus it cooks great. Great cooker. I'm glad I finally 'pulled the trigger' and bought me one. It's almost impossible to mess a cook up. No more stick burners or charcoal for me. My Maverick just went off, time to get my pork off the smoker and start enjoying.
Posted by Jim DeLozier on 16th Mar 2015
Fired my new smoker up for the first time last Saturday.....hosted a small part and cooked a 8# pork butt and 5# pork belly. I was impressed how the Rec Tec held its temperature during the 14 hour cook, compared to the Bradley smoker I've been using the past 4 years. The food was wonderful! Excellent quality.....well worth the money! I did research on all the pellet smokers for the past year...and I'm glad I made the Rec Tec choice!,

When my Rec Tec arrived I asked the neighbor to help put it together (he has a tragger). And he raved about how thick the guage of steel and the quality of the assembly. This thing is an amazing machine. Do the payments if you can't afford the lump sum cause it's worth every penny. PULL THE TRIGGER
Posted by Nick on 15th Mar 2015
I am smoking right now...
Easy to use, great tasting results, and great quality construction that has me assured this puppy will last. It holds temp perfectly (no more than 1 to 2 degree swings from what you set it at). I do recommend 2 people for assembly, but even by myself it only took 2 hours (and I am not particularly "handy"). Overall I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I have owned Traeger (Texan) for 7 years and had to replace the temperature controls three time along with the hinges, lid , lid holder and wheels.......I have had a Mak one star and it works fine but the controls re a bit complicated and I don't really care for the cooking area....Now ,OMG the REC TEC just has it all! Nice cooking area, Stainless steel grill and insides, GREAT Temp Controls, easy , Fast and Accurate. In side cook area light, Strong and Sturdy and The Bulls Horns....It RULES!

I've never had a smoker so I was very skeptical. After a lot of research I decided for the money the Rec Tec was the way to go. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Absolutely love it. I try to think of something to smoke every night. Customer service as good as advertised, top notch. And you can't beat the looks.

I have never smoked a day in my life. I have cooked onpropane and charcoal before but have never smoked any meat before. This smoker is amazing!!!! I received my smoker and the weekend it came in I smoked a 10 pound brisket. It had an amazing smoke ring! And the flavor!?!?!? Holy cow!!!! My friends were amazed "If this was your first time smoking your only going to get better, and this brisket is really good already!!!!" It set the temperature I wanted and walked away. I read all the reviews so I knew that I wouldn't have to worry about temperature variations. Didn't come back until my meat thermometer went off to tell me my brisket was ready to wrap in foil. Wrapped it in foil and walked away again until the thermometer reached the temp I wanted. If it is this easy for someone who has never smoked before. Imagine how good you can be right off the bat if you had some experience!!! In 6 months I will be a much better smoke master!!! Now u am on a mission to find the recipes that are perfect for my tastes! I can't say enough great things about this grill. I received it in 8 working days and had a delay due to weather.

I wanted a pellet smoker after trying meat cooked on a friend's new Treager. I was good, but she had such problems keeping temp during cook since it was fall when she bought it. So, I searched and searched, and Rec Tec seemed to be the one for me. The man though, he wanted me to go with one of lesser cost. I was purchasing, so finally talked him into it, and I placed my order. When he brings up the price now, I say it works better and price wasn't much higher. It also fits a lot more food, so I load it up and freeze some instead of running it more. I also tell him, if you want to complain that I spent a couple hundred more you don't have to eat what it cooked.
I haven't even used my charcoal grill since receiving this. I use the grill grates they are awesome too. It's so easy to start it up! Keeps temp great!

Believe the reviews. I bought the grill on the reviews and they are right on. Grill showed up was easy to put together and set up, did the break in per the instructions and went to grilling. Turkey breast, burgers, steaks, brats and pork lion and they all turned out great. Would like to add that i am from Wisconsin (Go Pack) and most the days that i was grilling was below zero with wind and the grill held the temp great. When i use to grill with LP gas it could never hold the temp in the colder weather. You can not o wrong with a Rec Tec buy one and enjoy grill at a whole new level.

I was in the market for a pellet grill and, truth be told, I thought Traeger was all there was. But after diligent research, I settled on the RT-680, and it appears I made the right choice.
Living in Texas, the true test of any BBQ/smoking apparatus is the ability to turn out a good brisket, and the RT-680 did not disappoint! The consistent low temperature was the key, and I only increased it at the end to get the internal temp where I wanted. The flavor and tenderness what right where it should be. My only addition was a small stainless steel bowl of water off to the side while the brisket cooked. Relative humidity is very low out in West Texas, and will dry out the meat.
Kudos to Rec Tec for a fine grill, and much thanks for the complimentary bag of pellets!

I cant say enough about this grill! Had it 2 weeks and I have enjoyed simple cooking and AMAZING Food!
Tri Tip, Best ever! Pulled pork, Best bark I have ever had from any other smoker! (wood/propane)
Ribye Steaks, I thought I already grilled the best steaks you could put in your mouth and the Rec Tec Topped it! Baked Potatoes, again Best I have ever grilled and so easy!
I own a retail store and we sell many different types of grills and smokers, but I use them year around 3-4 days a week and go through one every 2 years or less. Thought I would give this a try but was worried it could not be used as a grill, only a smoker. I'm here to tell you its both!
I did sooo much research before making this purchase and So far, Best $1200 I have spent in a while.
Just hope it holds up to my use.

I'm a trained culinary griller, and am simply tired of charcoal. My father has a Traeger that he raves about, but it seemed simplistic and cheaply name. Do I researched and researched. The reviews on the Rec Tec were encouraging, so I said, what the heck? 1,200 bucks or do all in with freight. In 4 days, LTL shows up and drops off this monster. I assemble, and not the superior craftsmanship and metal. Everything fit great. I season the grill. It's 15 degrees in Feb in Minneapolis. I'm just seasoning right. Push the little button and off it goes. Checked 30 minutes later and checked the internal temp. The degrees didn't move, do I'm thinking defective. I opened the lid and watched the temp drop. OMG, it's not defective! It held the temp perfectly! Ran to get baby back ribs and followed the you tube video. Apple juice, rub etc. I 5 hours I've enjoyed the best ribs ever! Last weekend, the temp climbed to 40, and did an 11 Hour pork butt. Amazing! The best grill I've ever owned!

The Rec-Tec is my first foray into smoking, and the Rec-Tec makes it easy. In my first week, I have smoked tri-tip, 19 pounds of Boston-Butt and two pork tenderloins, asparagus, garlic bread and a cobbler. I love introducing the Rec-Tec to my friends. The thousand-dollar+ price tag delayed my purchase by a year, but I am so glad I did not compromise on another brand. It seems to outstrip the competition in every way, from the 6-year warranty, to the quality of the steel of thermostat. So far, it has met my expectations, and I look forward to my next thousand pounds of tasty smoked meats, veggies, desserts, etc. Cheers!

This grill does everything it is advertised to do. Purchased mine with the stainless steel front shelf, cover, and the wood pellet bundle. Easy to assemble and use. Food taste great without the charring from flames like other grills do. Customer service is second to none. Just push the button to turn on and adjust the temperature. Couldn't be easier! Only thing I dislike is that it is very low to the ground for some reason.

Only used a few times since I got the rec tec in January. Used it in below freezing temps and it maintains temps very well. Easy to put together and use. Awesome grill.

its as simple as this: my wife is a great.cook but when it came to cooking on a BBQ not so good! One use of the Rec Tec and she is an expert! By the way I gave my propane BBQ away!

This is the first time in 46 years that I have been compelled to sit down and write feedback on a purchase that I have made. I won't spend a lot of time giving you the same technical information that you can read in the more than 150 posts that are either on Amazon or the Rec Tec website (which by the way, I read them all before making my purchase) but, what I do want to say is that this is the best 1K that I believe I have ever spent. I have been using this thing every night since it arrived a little over a week ago and it has yet to turn out anything less than Outstanding! As I type, I am Rec Tec'ing a Pork Butt which will cook while I sleep... low and slow and will be ready when I wake up tomorrow morning! The guys at Rec Tec have been awesome to work with too. I had a slight issue with the UPS truck driver delivering the grill on the day that was scheduled and they were trying to push out delivery another day; however, the GM at Rec Tec made a quick call and within an hour, the UPS driver dropped off this masterpiece!
I was even surprised to find that they had even thrown in a complementary grill cover and extra 40 pound bag of wood pellets! For all of you having a hard time "pulling the trigger" on a 1K grill, I would tell you that you are not just getting what I believe is the best grill/smoker for the money...you are absolutely getting the best support customer service in a USA company anywhere! I work in the sales field and there is an old saying, "people buy people first and product second;" The guys at Rec Tec have a firm grasp on this concept and oh by the way, they happen to sell an amazing grill. Truly, the only regret I have in this purchase is not buying the smaller RT-300 at the same time I bought my large one! Save yourself the time and shipping and just buy them both at the same time!

Being an engineer I critique everything. The rectec grill is very well constructed and out preforms many grills on the market (as I own many) but, the only thing I did change with the grill is the lid fitment. I decreased the lid gap top and bottom by adding a seal to keep more smoke in along with the heat.

This grill is so good that it should be banned in the South. First off, I bought the grill at a Voice Today charity auction to help abused children. What a great company and great owners to donate the grill to help such a good cause. Second, I bought a butt, put it on the RecTec, pressed the button and pulled off the perfect Q many hours later. My family raved. I of course took the full credit (with a little guilt of my minimal effort, full nights sleep, and the ease the RecTec delivered center piece of our meal). I got over the guilt on my first bite. Oh my. Great Q from the masses.

I have waited 2 years to buy this grill and it was well worth the wait. It's an expensive grill, but worth every single penny I paid for it! The customer service when I bought it was the best. Press a button, set temp, walk away and let the grill do its thing! The first thing I did was get rid of my old gas grill.
Posted by Unknown on 4th Mar 2015
I have grilled and smoked for over 30 years. You guys have figured out how to not screw it up. All of us have messed up lots of meat even after we got pretty good. I don't think that will ever happen again.
Clean up is amazingly easy. Thanks.
